At the Old Fort they lived in a small cabin. In 1959 the family moved to the 295 Reserve. After the move Larry was sent to Residential School at Lower Post. He tried to escape three times. The third time he and a friend, Raymond planned his escape route thoroughly and got as far as Steamboat on the Alaska Highway. They had to live four days on just berries. Unfortunately, they were caught and shaved bald for their efforts.

Today Larry Burke lives on the 295 Reserve. He has a camp out back, where he welcomes others and always has something to eat to offer his visitors.

The trapper’s cabin and cache models, Larry created are representative of the the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Models are located in the R.L. Angus School Library Resource Centre.

Also on display are the following models: Birch Bark Moose Caller, Birch Bark Cooking Utensils, Birch Bark Canoe. Birch Sled. Spruce Tree Cabins and Cache, Teepee and Drymeat Racks.
