Cottonwood [Bam - Balsam Poplar]

Bark
o used for carving
o carved into toys
o trees are easy for bears to climb
o used as an emergency canoe when hollowed
o used to provide shelter

Tag Alder
Wood
o used to smoke dry meat
o made into arrows
o used for slingshots
o employed to construct sweat lodges
o made into beaver racks for stretching pelt

o a medicine man used bark with other things to treat such things as colds
o bark turns red when cut


Moss
used as:
o diapers
o cradleboard lining

o insulation for log cabins
