Moose Tanning - Part 1


 


 

1. Build a Stretcher Frame

2. Heat the water to lukewarm to rinse the hide.

 

3. Cut the hide so that a rope can pass through.

4. The hide is hung from the back end (rump) and
is in the centre of the top pole.

 

5. Triangular pattern of ropes are used for
stretching. The ropes are looped around
corner poles.

6. The hide is tied on a rack. The flesh side is
facing up.

 

7. This is a close-up of the “fleshing tool, made
from the front leg of a moose.
